#21 Hand Painted Monastery Tibetan Chest
This handsome 19th century chest is decorated with two intricately painted, clawed dragons holding a painted porcelain bowl filled with Wish Fulfilling Gems and other auspicious offerings. All of this is covered by a pleated Canopy, symbolizing the Victory of the Buddha’s Teaching. Each of the four corners is decorated with a winged garuda, a mythical guardian figure, who often accompanies the dragon in the protection against evil. Because craftsmen of this period began perfecting building methods to strengthen the structural integrity of the chest, this chest has not been built with external fittings. It does, however, have the original metal clasp from this period. For shipping and handling please contact info@innerasiarugs.com.
